Absolutely not. Skylanders games requires a Portal of Power and at least 1 figure to play. Swap Force figures can switch top and bottom halves, giving you the ability to create new character combinations. In order to use the Swap Force feature the game requires a new Portal of Power for Swapping, as the older Portals can't sense the top half of the new Swappable characters. The Swap Force characters do not work in previous games and the power swapping feature can only be used in the Skylanders: Swap Force game.

Not all generations of Skylanders figures are compatible with older generations of the game. It's best to check the Skylanders website to see which characters will work with which games. All Skylanders figures work on any console, but the Skylanders games are console specific.
